Assisting victims of sexual assualt

Resource kit for police officers

This sexual assault kit was developed by the Criminal Justice Support Network (CJSN) and was funded by the NSW Department of Corrective Services, Victims of Violent Crime Grants Program.

The kit aims to improve the way that frontline police officers respond to people with intellectual disability making an initial report to police of sexual assault.

The referral checklist is to be completed by the first officer to speak with the person to assist them in making an appropriate and timely referral to detectives.

The kit has been distributed to NSW police stations and incorporated into officer training on responding to sexual assault.
