JS support persons at police stations
A person with intellectual disability is classified as a 'vulnerable person' and entitled to have a support person attend the police station if they are arrested - Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002 (NSW). However, this does not in fact happen for many.
JS provides support persons who can go to a police station, 24/7 days a week iin many areas of NSW if a person with intellectual disability is arrested.
